WHAT IS TRAUMA?

– A Deeply Upsetting and Disturbing Experience

TRAUMA is the emotional response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope, or integrate the emotions involved in that experience.
This causes feelings of helplessness, diminishing their sense of self and their ability to feel the full range of emotions and experiences.


There are 3 types of Trauma

– Acute Trauma –         This results from a single stressful or dangerous event.

– Chronic Trauma –      This is a result of prolonged and repeated exposure to extremely stressful events.

– Complex Trauma –    This is the result of exposure to multiple traumatic events

TRAUMA PERMANENTLY CHANGES US

This is the big scary truth abut Trauma….



There is no such thing as ‘getting over it,

the reality of Trauma is much bigger than that.


There is no ‘back to the old me.


You are different now, full stop.


However, this is not a wholly negative thing.


Healing from Trauma can also mean finding new strength and joy.


Healing is not about papering over what has happened to you in an effort to preserve or present things as ‘normal’.


Healing from Trauma is acknowledging what has happened to you and learning how to wear your new life warts, wisdom and all…
