About our retreats sexual abuse support retreats

Our retreats are an opportunity to take time out from everyday life and the difficulties it can bring.

sexual abuse support retreats

A small group of ladies spending time together.

Venue - A quiet place (often near the sea). A typical itinerary might include a gentle walk, relaxation exercises, and activities such as baking or arts and crafts. There will be free time where you can enjoy the surroundings and use the facilities.  The aim is to build relationships with other survivors. We have no expectations other than relaxation!

I never realised how important relationships with other survivors would be for my own recovery. I spent so long hiding my trauma, never being in a situation where I was able to speak about it.

At the retreats, we are amongst others that understand. Even if you don’t wish to speak about it, the feeling of being understood is reassuring and so important for us as survivors.

Everyone will have their own bedroom and all meals are included.

“I had a lovely time”

I had a lovely time attending an Othona Retreat. If Only… charity and the Othona Community made me feel very welcome. I felt that I was able to relax, listen and take part in whatever I felt comfortable doing so. From the moment I pulled up in my car I was made to feel welcome, I had my own space where I slept overnight which was comfortable and peaceful. I was made aware of the itinerary before I arrived which was nice as I didn’t have to guess what we would be doing and build up unwanted anxiety. A lot of effort was put into the activities during the retreat and I liked that there were group activities where we were all together but making /doing our own thing.

In the evening there was time to chat together, there was no awkward silences. Everyone respected each other and everyone listened.

I feel privileged to have been able to take part in the retreat and cannot thank Jo and Karen enough for all their hard work and effort, they really are inspirational women 💜

"I can’t wait for the next one"

The retreat gave me the opportunity to spend time with some amazing women and new found friends. I’ve never before been surrounded by people who just get it, get me and who I can be myself around with no judgement and 100% support, but this is what this weekend was. We laughed, we reflected and we had fun. The location really gives you a chance to step away from day to day pressure and responsibility, and be looked after.

I loved the art workshop and the baking meaning I could take home some reminders of this precious time. I can’t wait for the next one.

"We all laughed and had a good time"

I attended my second retreat at Othona this weekend. It is an amazing place to wind down and it's great to be able to reflect, along with doing group activities. The if Only… ladies made me feel at ease, relaxed and welcome, and the ladies that came along were so friendly and I felt like I had known them for a long time. We all laughed and had a good time. I would really recommend attending an if Only… retreat if you are able to ❤️

"It felt the safest I’ve ever felt"

Personally I found the retreat really helpful, everyone understood each other and it felt the safest I’ve ever felt. I could just be myself and not have to pretend to be someone I’m not. There was enough structure to give us something to do but enough time to just talk and learn about each other which I really liked as you get to know more in person than online. I’d love to go again to the next one if work commitments allow. Jo and Karen made me feel so welcome and at ease as I was very anxious to begin with xxx

"The retreat is a memory I will have forever"

The retreat is a memory I will have forever. Being around others who understand, knowing I could truly be myself and feel safe was so comforting. The art session was a personal favourite moment as I realised how powerful having something to focus and concentrate on, can benefit my mind. But overall, just being able to spend time with everyone and enjoy ourselves in a place away from the struggles of our everyday lives was what made it so special. Thank you Jo and Karen for being so accommodating and bringing us all together xx

"Everyone is so welcoming"

I am so grateful to be able to spend time with such lovely people in an environment that is safe and friendly. Everyone is so welcoming and it's so nice to get away from everyday life. I'm not the most creative person but the art session was calming and so therapeutic. Thank you so much for the opportunity and I look forward to other retreats in the future xx

"It felt really good for my soul"

I am so grateful to be part of the retreat I found it so heartwarming being around other survivors who truely understand the difficulties being a survivor can bring, it was so lovely meeting eveyone and bonding over a connection. It felt really good for my soul and I’m so grateful for how amazingly Jo and Karen structured the day and thought of every single detail and made each of us feel welcome and safe. 💗xx
